This is elegant, perfumed, aromatic and precise. This has to be the finest Genoveva Caíño to date. Bravo!

This is the richest wine I've seen from the Azores, even with that 12.1%. It's almost unctuous in texture. It's beautifully wrought, with the only remaining question being how it will develop. It should hold some 15 years, maybe more. It will be fascinating to see what happens to this multifaceted and surprisingly lush Arinto dos Açores. The price point, to be sure, is another matter.

The 2022 Goliardo A Telleira shows lots of finesse. They changed the élevage here to 1,500-litre foudre, which they think works better for Albariño than barrels, no matter how big they are, and this wine clearly shows it. It has the finesse of the sandy soils and a polished texture (a little more sleek, a bit à la Chenin) but still lively and with pungent flavors.

The very pale and delicate 2020 Goliardo Caíño is floral, balsamic and peppery, delicate and fresh, varietal with moderate ripeness and notable acidity with a lively stream of freshness. 2,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in January 2023.

Arinto dos Açores 2019

This wine makes its case on freshness and acidity, perhaps even more so than normal. It is an impressive performance. The structure suggests it can age and improve, and it really must to justify my enthusiasm. It won't be the perfect choice for those who like sweet and fruity, but it is firing on all cylinders otherwise. Those who like freshness will love it. It will be a particularly good choice in warm weather.

Arinto dos Açores 2019

The Arinto dos Açores is a local clone of the grape, giving a textured, crisp and mineral wine. Those textures go with spiced pear and kiwi flavors to give this rich wine that is now ready to drink.

Elo Monastrell 2019

Tangy and peppery nose with some white pepper and dark earth to the cranberries and mulberries. Tart berries and spices with a lovely gamey undertone on the crunchy palate with some chewy tannins that extend to a medium-long finish. Sinewy, structured and sappy. Better from 2024.

Indeed, right now it seems to be quite a success, a star in its own right and style. Both may improve in time, but this will hold up its end of the bargain. I'd still like to see it answer some questions in the cellar, but it is irresistible now.

The 2020 Goliardo Tinto shows a touch of rusticity. It's a blend of Caíño with some Espadeiro, Loureiro and a little Sousón. It's medium-bodied and has moderate ripeness and alcohol (12%) with lots of acidity, good freshness and fine tannins.

Mono A 2019

Cool, light and airy in its dark spice, this is an intriguing varietal take on alfrocheiro. Luis Seabra, best known for his Douro wines, presents this as an easy and fresh red with stamina.

It seems, in fact, a bit more distinguished these days, no longer merely a value wine that flirts with 90 points, but one that I might expect to hit that level pretty regularly. This is lovely, dense, nuanced and vigorous. It has a very serious feel, big fruit and a lingering finish.

The Talha makes its presence known here, but past that, this is a structured white with a sense of depth in mouthfeel. This is beautifully focused and complex, an intriguing medley on the finish.

It seems impeccably well balanced, shows fine depth, beautiful fruit and still has hints of finesse. The tannins are ripe, making this easy to enjoy now, but that doesn't mean this is at peak. For the regular Tinto in this sometimes pricey lineup, this is a steal and a fine value point. It's a great choice for a house pour.

A rather gentle and understated orange wine, this is beautifully balanced this year. Then, it adds dried peaches and apricots on the finish. It's still a bit different and not for everyone, not exactly your typical white, but it doesn't go overboard in power or eccentricity.

A wonderfully fresh version of this grape, this is silky and lively. It adds what you would expect from this grape: flavor and aromatics. The raspberries and strawberries lace the finish. There is only average depth and some structure, but this is about hedonism and fruit. It develops beautifully in the glass and evolves steadily.

Baga Ao Sol 2019

The grape's typical tannic structure is on full display here. Supported by dark-black fruits and by a still-youthful chewy texture, the wine is set for aging. Drink from 2025 when it will have smoothed out well.

A Touriga Vai Nua 2019

It's not as seriously structured, but it is fragrant, tasty, pure and delicious. It has enough structure to seem serious, and it is very fresh, the fruit lifted on the palate. The mid-palate is well on the elegant side—nothing jammy here. It's a bit lean and rather nervy. It finishes with some blueberries but always in a dry fashion, never very fruity. This might be a great summer red, and you can drink it a few degrees cooler than normal.

Rosé Vulcânico 2019

A fresh delight for summer drinking, this has beautiful flavor with the fruit always supported by fine acidity. Lingering and refreshing, this is a pleasure to drink.

Atlántida Blanco 2020

This is made from vijiriega blanca, a nearly extinct variety local to Jerez. This wine’s tart white-cherry flavors feel meaty, while the tannins feel dusty and sharp. There’s a cedar-box scent along with pale florals that would work with poached cod. - Joshua Greene
